Job Requirements

Position Summary

The Admixture Technician I supports Admixture room operations by performing basic sterile admixtures and medication preparation tasks under supervision. The Admixture Technician I focuses on skill development, adherence to regulatory standards, and accurate task execution to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Performs basic Intravenous (IV), Intramuscular (IM) and Subcutaneous (SC) admixture tasks including antineoplastics and biologics using aseptic and sterile technique under the supervision of a designated leader, utilizing proper aseptic and sterile compounding techniques to ensure medication accuracy, quality, and patient safety.
  • Adheres to established departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including applicable United States Pharmacopeia (USP) <797> and <800> guidelines, to support compliant, safe, and effective sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling practices.
  • Maintains cleanroom and supports environmental control processes by following required cleaning, disinfecting, and workflow procedures, and by assisting with environmental monitoring activities to help ensure compliance with sterile compounding standards.
  • Accurately completes and maintains required logs, records, and documentation related to compounding activities, quality assurance, environmental monitoring, inventory, and other operational processes
  • Supports inventory management and medication handling functions by receiving, stocking, rotating, labeling, storing, and disposing of medications and supplies appropriately, while helping to monitor inventory levels.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with pharmacists, technicians, nursing staff, and other team members regarding daily workflow, medication preparation status, supply needs, and
  • operational issues to promote efficient and coordinated department operations.
  • Identifies and promptly escalate issues, discrepancies, medication variances, or operational concerns to leadership, as appropriate.
  • Organizes and replenishes emergency medication boxes and related supplies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the EMR with treatment plans and medication queuing.
  • Keeps admixture areas clean, organized, and inspection-ready by restocking supplies, monitoring par levels and removing outdated materials.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Experience: None
  • Licensure: Any one of the following:
  • Current State of Florida Pharmacy Technician registration OR
  • Current State of Florida Pharmacy intern registration.
  • Certification: None
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge in computer and technology skills.
  • Willingness to learn basic sterile admixture techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers. Good hand and wrist dexterity to enable typing and/or computer work for 8-10 hours/day.
  • Able to verbalize, read and follow instructions as written or placed in EMR.
  • Ability to work in noisy distracting atmosphere, to handle frequent interruptions, to adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Handle large volumes of work for long periods of time.
  • Walk, bend, stoop, twist, sit, stand for long periods of time, 8-10 hours a day.
  • May require lifting and carrying light loads (Up to 40 lbs.)
