Admissions Counselor for Graduate & Transfer Department Admissions The State University of New York at Geneseo seeks a self-motivated equity-minded Admissions Counselor to support growth in New York State out-of-state and international graduate and transfer student enrollment. This position plays a key role in expanding access to Geneseos public liberal arts education by recruiting, advising, and supporting prospective students across multiple pathways.
The Admissions Counselor manages assigned recruitment territories and pipelines, including community colleges, four-year institutions, international partners, and graduate programs. Responsibilities include recruitment outreach, event programming, application review, and relationship building with counselors, faculty, and campus partners. Evening and weekend work, along with travel, is required during peak recruitment periods. Candidates will have the opportunity to work a flex schedule and may be required to work alternative schedules. Many of these responsibilities entail evening and weekend commitments.
Required Qualifications ----------------------
Applicants must hold a Bachelors degree and be highly motivated, creative, flexible, detail-focused, and adaptable to changing environments. Must demonstrate commitment and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department missions. Job Duties and Responsibilities ------------------------------
### Job Duty Responsibility Function 1: Correspond with prospective students and other constituents
Correspond with prospective students and other constituents through strategic written and verbal communications using SLATE and BI dashboards to plan and implement a comprehensive territory-based recruitment and communication plan. The Admissions Counselor recruits and advises prospective transfer and graduate students with a focus on enrollment growth and building sustainable strategies across New York State out-of-state and international markets. The role includes managing assigned territories representing Geneseo at in-person and virtual recruitment events and developing relationships with transfer counselors, faculty advisors, and international partners. The counselor plans and delivers recruitment programs for their territory and actively engages with students during campus visits, information sessions on-campus and off, recruiting events such as Open Houses and Admitted Student Days, as well as national college fairs and SUNY outreach initiatives.
### Job Duty Responsibility Function 2: Provide timely admissions decisions
The Admissions Counselor provides timely admissions decisions using Slate CRM, advising on application requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and next steps. The role includes reviewing transfer and graduate applications using a holistic equity-centered approach and contributing to team-based admission decisions and enrollment strategy discussions.
### Job Duty Responsibility Function 3: Participate in office projects and events
The counselor also participates in office projects and events that support recruitment effectiveness, process improvement, and the prospective student experience.
