Job Description

Technology Advancement Office (TAO)MU research and scholarship often lead to new technologies, tools, therapeutics, diagnostics, compositions, processes, and other inventions that can improve peoples lives. The Technology Advancement Office (TAO) partners with faculty, companies, entrepreneurs, and investors to bring those innovations to market. TAO is part of MUs Division of Research, Innovation & Impact and is currently looking for Administrative Consultant II. We work at the interface of science, business, and patent law to evaluate, protect, and pave the way for the translation of innovations into products, jobs, and businesses.

The Administrative Consultant II, Engineering, under general direction of assigned director or administrator, manages the universitys intellectual property assets by providing professional support in the identification, patenting, licensing, marketing, and reporting of university intellectual property. The Administrative Consultant II, Engineering, will ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and University policies; identifies, evaluates, and protects researchers intellectual properties, including outreach to faculty to stimulate disclosures; guide faculty on protection processes; and evaluate prior art and intellectual property patent research activities, having extensive interaction with patent attorneys and potential licensees.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Manage/support the invention disclosure process, including outreach efforts within MU to educate faculty and staff on technology transfer and to stimulate the submission of disclosures. • Lead/support intellectual property (IP) efforts, including: • Evaluate invention disclosures for potential IP (patents, copyright, tangible research, etc.). • Formulate and execute intellectual property strategies. • Evaluate commercial potential for IP. • Direct patent attorney selection and engagement and manage patent prosecution. • Review attorney work products, including draft patent applications and office actions responses. • Lead/support marketing efforts, including: • Assess market opportunity and develop recommendations. • Develop and execute marketing strategy. • Develop marketing materials. • Lead/support licensing efforts for engineering IP, including: • Negotiate agreements, including: • License agreements, option agreements, collaboration agreements, inter-institutional agreements, NDAs, MTAs, and others as needed. • Management of licensee compliance and long-term relationship.

 

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

 

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in business, science, or engineering. • Work experience in a technology transfer office/organization. • Analytical and logical thinker with attention to detail. • Creative problem solver. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. • Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment. • Ethical and committed to maintaining integrity. • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

 

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $69,097.60 - $134,950.40 per year Grade: GGS 012 University Title: Administrative Consultant II
