Job Title Administrative Assistant/Dispatcher Campus Police - Harrison County Campus Job Description
The Administrative Assistant/Dispatcher for the Campus Police Office reports directly to the Chief of Police and serves as the primary point of contact in the Campus Police Department for all incoming phone calls and walk-in traffic. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to balance institutional traditions and academic integrity with the individual needs of the students, faculty and the Campus Police Officers. In addition, the successful candidate will understand the responsibility to act in accord with the guidelines set by the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA); and exhibit the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of Law Enforcement
Agencies, administrators, faculty, staff and students.
Job Duties
Serves as receptionist in the Campus Police Office, directing phone calls and walk-in traffic to the appropriate personnel or department in an effective manner.
Greets and provides service as needed to customers (student, employees, general inquiries) entering the Campus Police Office, calling on the phone, or emailing correspondence.
Maintains radio contact with the Campus Police Office, maintenance, and administration using professional radio etiquette and use of 10 codes and signal codes.
Manages the input citations and traffic tickets into ARMS in a timely and accurate manner.
Dispatches campus public safety officers when services are required.
Maintains a log of all telephone and radio communications related to the Campus Police Office.
Monitors campus security cameras for suspicious activity and directs campus police officers to the location.
Supervises student workers assigned to the Campus Police Office.
Participates in professional/staff development designed to enhance job skills.
Be an effective member of the Student Services team by maintaining an effective working relationship with campus personnel, students and the community.
Maintains inventory of department equipment.
Issues uniforms and maintains uniform inventory.
Maintains an accurate and complete filing system.
Prepares professional reports and memos, as assigned.
Stays abreast of and adheres to college and campus police policies and procedures.
Assists in general functions, sharing duties with other staff personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Campus Police, Assistant Chief of Police, Dean of Business Services, and the Campus Vice President.
Mandatory Qualifications
M(1) A minimum of an Associate Degree from an accredited higher education institution.
M(2) Experience answering and transferring calls using a multi-line phone system.
M(3) Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, internet and Outlook.
M(4) Effective written and verbal communication skills.
M(5) Superior customer service skills.
Desirable Qualifications
D(1) State certification as a Telecommunications Operator.
D(2) Certified NCIC Operator.
D(3) Experience with Banner software.
D(4) Experience working in a community college system.
