Duties Description Under the direction of the Major of the Hudson Valley District, the incumbent of this position will report to the District Major and perform confidential administrative activities for sworn and civilian members in the District, assist with confidential police related information and handle sensitive information discreetly and promptly.
Manages day-to-day administrative activities for the Hudson Valley District
G-22 and other sworn and civilian members within the Hudson Valley Park Police District as well as members working in the three Zones (New York City, Palisades, and Taconic).
Prepares and reconciles purchases and travel expenses in SFS and BETS
Assists with confidential police related information

NY HELPS or 55-b/c Qualifications:
The Administrative Assistant 1, SG-11, title is part of the New York State Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS*). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS or 55-b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma; and three years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g. email, work processing) provision of customer service, business writing, and management of an office. Certification (e.g., IAAP Certified Administrative Professional), diploma, or assiciate's degree in office administration, secretarial science, administrative assistant, paralegal business technology, or office technology substitutes for two years of experience.
Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialist agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education (https://ope.ed.gv/dapip/#home). If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its terriroties, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. This information can be found at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm.

Individuals certified eligible for the 55-b/c program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55-b/c of the Civil Service Law will must provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response. You must also meet the open competitive minimum qualifications cited above.
NYS HELPS: For the duration of the NY HELPS program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications cited above. Agencies may hire employees by making temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action appointments. Upon Civil Service Commission approval, the appointment will be changed to permanent non-competitive and the official one year probationary period will begin. Within one year of permanent appointment, it is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NYS HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examinations for which they are qualified.
Transfer/Reinstatement Opportunity:
Candidates must be a current New York State employee and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service in a title eligible for transfer under Sections 52.6, 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades. Condidates may also be eligible for reinstatment in accordance with Civil Service Law.

The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances. We encourage OPRHP seasonal / hourly applicants to check in with your Regional Business Office Administrator to inquire about the potential impact on your salary.
Depending on each applicants experience and/or education and current salary, if employed by New York State already, the appointment may be made to the Administrative Assistant Trainee 1, Administrative Assistant Trainee 2, or the Administrative Assistant 1 titles. Included below is a breakdown of the salary at each level of the traineeship.
Administrative Assistant Trainee 1, NS=8: $40,391 - $49,743
Administrative Assistant Trainee 2, NS=10: $45,081 - $55,322
Administrative Assistant 1, SG-11: $47,695 - $58,447
