Position Start Date: September 1, 2026

 

Required Degree: 

MFA in Creative Writing, or an MA in English or a comparable field. The required degree must be completed before the start date.

 

Experience: 

College-level English literature course instruction.

 

Duties/Expectations: 

  • Teach GE civilization and letters (literature) courses, including ENGL 201 (World Lit 1), ENGL 202 (World Lit 2), ENGL 203 (Ways of Reading), ENGL 232 (Shakespeare), ENGL 230 (Studies in Literature), ENGL 235 (Studies in American Literature), and ENGL 236 (Studies in British Literature). Course descriptions and outcomes are available in the BYU Course Catalog.
  • Instructor Availability: Applicants must teach in-person classes on the BYU Provo campus, be available for at least three office hours each week, share an office with up to two additional adjunct faculty, and provide assignment feedback in a timely manner.
  • Training and Meetings: Adjunct faculty may be required to attend department training prior to the start of teaching as well as attend periodic course coordination meetings. They do not attend department faculty meetings and are not expected to participate in citizenship and research as part of their regular load. They may be invited to participate in minimal ad hoc curricular and mentoring assignments, for which they would be compensated in addition to their teaching contract. Adjuncts are invited to attend adjunct faculty mini-workshops as their time and interest allow.
