Job Summary

North Central Texas College is seeking adjunct instructors to teach various biology courses throughout the academic year. Adjunct instructors are responsible for planning and teaching both lecture and laboratory classes in various modalities, face-to-face, hybrid, and online. This position carries with it the obligation to uphold the Mission of North Central Texas College in carrying out the duties of the position. A commitment while embracing positive interpersonal behaviors, professional communication, integrity, leadership, stewardship, respect, and accountability to our students and employees.

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of course and program objectives and to contribute to the overall educational environment of the college and community and to provide related services such as academic advising, committee participation, professional development, community development, as well as other service support that is needed in the fulfillment of the North Central Texas Colleges Mission.

Duties

Planning and teaching undergraduate courses in biology. Treating students and colleagues with respect. Active involvement in issues of institutional effectiveness, including student learning outcomes, program-level outcomes, and marketable skill achievement. Focusing teaching and outreach efforts on student success. Maintaining accurate and complete course records as required by North Central Texas College. Participating in planning, implementing, and evaluating assigned courses. Working effectively within a group or independently, student-oriented, and able to meet deadlines. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.

Required Education Masters Degree in Biology or Masters degree and at least 18 graduate hours in Biology.

Required Skills & Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Above average computer skills. Exhibition of respect and professionalism in a spirit of collegiality. Microsoft Office proficient. Ability to promote an effective environment for learning in lecture and lab experiences. Ability to teach students using a variety of teaching methods. Knowledge of online delivery methods. Ability to prep course lab materials.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Experience using Canvas LMS. Knowledge of online course development.

Required Experience

Experience teaching biology required. Preferred Experience Community college dual credit and/or public-school teaching experience preferred. Online teaching experience preferred. Experience teaching anatomy and physiology preferred.

Salary - $680 load unit plus $680 lab taught. Possible additional compensation for large class size. Classes scheduled during the day or evenings depending on enrollment. Hours and location dependent upon course schedule and enrollment.
