Position Summary Information

General Description of Position

The Continuing Education Division Leisure Learning program is continuously seeking part-time instructors to teach non-credit/community educational offerings in the area of leisure learning. Opportunities vary widely. If you have a self-designed curriculum you would like to propose for the division, please complete the application. Class selection is made on a term-by-term basis.

The Leisure Learning program seeks qualified instructors to provide affordable, varied, and outstanding non-credit lifelong learning opportunities to Lincoln/Lancaster County residents.

Adjunct instructors provide local residents with positive educational experiences, teach valuable new skills, and provide community involvement.

Proposals will be considered for additional review based on factors including but not limited to community demand, relevance to SCC Continuing Education objectives, existing courses, and the course's potential for cost recovery.

Please note: Instructors are not permitted to sell products or services in their class.Application and class proposals do not guarantee acceptance. This is a part-time temporary position.

Essential Functions
  1. Knowledge of and experience in floral design principals and elements.
  2. Experience in the floral industry, to include floral design skills with small and large arrangements, floral care and management, project management skills and excellent communication skills.
  3. Self-directed with a passion to teach others floral design concepts and mentor those students while they are designing their own work.
  4. Experience with budgeting and purchasing floral materials.
Marginal Functions
  1. Most continuing education leisure classes are offered evenings and Saturdays with hours varying depending on the class topic. Class hours are coordinated with the Leisure Program director each term.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Ability to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and media equipment.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  3. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  4. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Floral Design experience with a passion and expertise in the field.
  2. Ability to use basic computer and email skills.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Teaching experience with a passion and expertise in the area of floral design.
  2. AIFD certification.
  3. Ability to use basic computer and email skills.
