The Adjunct Instructor will teach courses in Maintenance and Automation, focusing on frequency drives, the foundations of electricity, smart sensors, and pneumatics. The ideal candidate will have both strong theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience and be eager to educate and mentor students in an engaging and hands-on learning environment.

Duties

  • Teach courses on industrial automation systems and maintenance practices, including Frequency Drives, Foundations and Troubleshooting of Electricity, Smart Sensors, Pneumatics, Programmable Logic Controllers, an Overview of industrial robotics, automation integration, and programming.
  • Lead hands-on laboratory sessions using modern automation equipment.
  • Develop and update course materials, including lectures, assignments, and lab exercises, ensuring they reflect the current industry's best practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum and student engagement. Maintains mastery of subject matter, reflecting industry needs in curriculum development and using new technology.
  • Modifies instructional methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students; encourages the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Maintains equipment to ensure it meets safety standards and is ready for use.
  • Prepares and maintains course documentation (attendance, grading, rosters, section changes, class schedules) in accordance with college policy. Ensures accuracy and timely submission to meet reporting requirements.
  • Ensures the highest safety standards, organization, and cleanliness in labs and shop areas by adhering to 5S Lean Principles and integrating these practices into training.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, expectations, and practices of the College, the department, and discipline.
  • Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High School diploma or its equivalent ;

  2. A minimum of two years of full-time or equivalent training experience in a corporate, industrial, or workforce development environment;

  3. A minimum of three years of hands-on industry experience in the field of industrial automation, maintenance, or a related field;

  4. Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), frequency drives, smart sensors, robotics, and pneumatic systems;

  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and mentor students;

  6. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve complex technical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Proficiency with common automation software and tools (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or other PLC programming platforms).
  • Industry certifications such as Siemens PLC, Allen-Bradley, FANUC Robotics, or equivalent are a plus.
  • Experience with designing and developing training or educational curriculum.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
