This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Occupational Therapy Assistant who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to teaching courses in occupational therapy and may be responsible for coordinating academic fieldwork. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, online courses, or tech-sponsored classes, and in immediate preparation for assigned courses. Instructors are expected to maintain and improve competence in subjects being taught and prepare teaching materials. As academic fieldwork coordinator, the OTA will ensure compliance with ACOTE 2023 C Standards including handling fieldwork educators, fieldwork sites and student placements.

This position is filled on an as needed basis, contingent upon institutional needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required: Associate degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with a Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three (3) years of clinical/healthcare experience as an occupational therapy assistant. Experience must include direct hands-on clinical practice experience as an occupational therapy assistant and professional experience as a fieldwork educator or documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator.

Preferred: Five (5) years of clinical/healthcare experience as an occupational therapy assistant.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:

Required:

  • Current Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure by the State of Texas.
  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as a certified occupational therapy assistant.

MEMBERSHIPS:

Required: Must hold (or obtain within 30 days of hire) membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively teach assigned course(s) utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques which include teaching activities, classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
  • Plan, develop/create and present organized classroom teaching and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Create engaging lesson plan that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them of their progress.
  • Student advisement on a regular basis in the areas of conduct and responsibilities to enter the profession, progress and academic standing, fieldwork education.
  • Create a written professional development plan.
  • Participate in OTA department strategic plan development, evaluation and revision.
  • Participate in OTA program curriculum design development, evaluation and revision.
  • Participate in OTA course design development, evaluation and revision.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance and academic performance.
  • Advise students of progress in course(s) in person, by electronic communication, or other available methods.
  • Attend orientation, meetings, and training opportunities as required.
  • Collaborate with the program director to obtain supplies needed for course(s) taught.
  • Submit college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

  • Documented current expertise in their assigned area(s) of teaching responsibility and student advisement, including knowledge of resources for student well-being.

  • Skills in computer operation, multimedia classroom instructional software, and willingness to learn new computer software.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in teaching field and related technologies.
  • Ability to educate one's self regarding Amarillo College policies.

Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades, please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary).

Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as audio/video-recorders, computers, phones, and copy machines.
