The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Humanities and Sciences is recruiting a pool of adjunct faculty for Academic Year 2025-2026 course sections within the Department of Sociology. This pool will be utilized on an as-needed basis. Your application will remain active through June 2026, and you may resubmit your application for subsequent years. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Meet all designated course instruction guidelines. • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions and rubric provided. • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours. • Submit midterm and final grades according to College and Department policy.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Teach one or more sections of selected courses in the Sociology Department, depending on the qualifications of the applicant and their discipline area as listed in the qualifications section. This may include in-person and/or online instruction.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess a masters degree in sociology or a related field with experience and specialized expertise directly related to the position. • Possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or other doctoral degree in Sociology or a related discipline or directly related to the position is preferred. • Previous experience teaching courses within the field.

Salary Range $1437 per credit hour
