Position Summary:
This position includes teaching fundamental concepts of General Chemistry. The instructor will be engaging with a diverse population of students in the teaching/learning process and working an assigned schedule. The position may involve teaching in traditionally delivered and/or web-based formats.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives. • Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology. • Assures consistency in the planning, preparation, and administration of the course content, syllabus, outlines, and other teaching materials for courses and lab experiences. • Works effectively with students and challenges students appropriately with an acceptable level of civility and discourse. • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives. • Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner. • Determines and submits students grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures. • Supports the mission of the program, division, and College.
Other Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations. • Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail. • Proficient with learning management systems • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students. • Capability to teach in more than one discipline. • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills. • Effective problem-solving skills. • Ability to work a combination of days/evening schedules.
Education and Work Experience:
• Master of Science degree in Chemistry, or related field (including at least 18 graduate semester hours) which supports teaching of Chemistry related topics required. • Previous college-level teaching experience preferred.
