The Criminal Justice Dual Enrollment Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching college-level criminal justice courses to high school students participating in the dual enrollment program at Mecklenburg High School. The instructor will provide engaging instruction, maintain academic standards consistent with Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and support student success in both secondary and postsecondary learning environments.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.

Course Content & Specific Duties:
  • Teach assigned criminal justice dual enrollment courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course objectives
  • Develop and deliver instructional materials, lectures, assignments, and assessments that promote student learning and engagement
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records in accordance with SVCC and Mecklenburg County Public Schools policies
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional classroom environment
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, high school administrators, counselors, and college personnel as needed
  • Adhere to all college and school division policies, procedures, and academic standards.
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and professional development activities
  • Utilize instructional technology and online learning platforms effectively
  • Encourage student interest in criminal justice careers and postsecondary educational opportunities
  • Submit required reports, syllabi, and documentation in a timely manner

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice from a regionally accredited institution or Master's degree in another discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in criminal justice.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school and college students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success
Additional Considerations
  • Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
  • Experience teaching dual enrollment, community college, or high school students.
  • Professional experience in law enforcement, corrections, courts, probation/parole, or related criminal justice fields.
  • Experience with online or hybrid instruction.
