Position Summary

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a part-time fixed-term faculty member at the rank of Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor to work in the Forensic Psychiatry program and Clinic in Chapel Hill, NC. This Clinic conducts criminal and civil forensic psychiatry and psychology evaluations, and provides consultation and monitoring services on local cases and those originating in other states or federal jurisdictions, when those requests fall within the areas of expertise of the Clinic/Program faculty.

Primary Duties: provide forensic psychological input into cases conducted within the Clinic;

Conduct routine and specialized forensic psychological assessments and testing as appropriate to the evaluation questions that arise in cases referred to the Clinic;

Complete detailed, understandable reports outlining the results of the testing, analysis, and consultation, complete, and be available to testify at deposition or trial as needed; Be involved in educating trainees, other clinicians, attorneys, and the judiciary regarding the forensic evaluation process and pertinent forensic topics.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants must have a doctorate degree in psychology and be fully licensed in the state of NC. They must have at least 5 years of experience in conducting criminal and civil forensic evaluations, and have done so in a team environment, working closely with psychiatry. They must have an excellent working knowledge and experience with mental health conditions and diagnoses specific to adults and adolescents. They must be able to administer and analyze the results of psychological tests pertinent to conducting forensic evaluations to include, but not limited to intellectuals and adaptive skills assessment; neuropsychological screening and detailed assessment; objective personality and psychopathology testing including the MMPI-3, PAI, MCMI-IV, and projective testing including the Rorschach; assessment of trauma syndrome including use of CAPS; assessment of competency to stand trial instruments; tests of efforts and assessment for the possibility of malingering; and risk assessments regarding risk of harm to self or others. They must demonstrate strong writing and oral presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preferred qualifications include prior experience working within a Department of Psychiatry and demonstrated experience in a clinical environment specializing in forensics.
