Description: Benefits Questions Position Overview The Adult Basic Education GED Instructor is responsible for guiding learners toward high school equivalency certification while supporting their broader educational and career aspirations. This role focuses on teaching across multiple content areas, providing individualized academic advising, and delivering instruction through both in-person and distance learning formats.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities ------------------------------------------------

### GED Test Preparations

Provide comprehensive GED instruction in all four subject areas:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts (Reading)
  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Science
  • Social Studies

### Delivering Instruction

  • Deliver differentiated instruction to meet different academic skill levels in a multi-level classroom environment
  • Develop lesson plans that build content knowledge and test-taking strategies specific to the GED format

### Career and College Planning

  • Guide students through career exploration and college planning process, including:
  • Identifying interests and strengths
  • Researching education and career pathways
  • Understanding admissions requirements
  • Navigating financial aid options
  • Connecting with community resources

### Goal Development and Academic Advising

  • Develop individualized education plans with students that include:
  • Long-term academic and career goals (such as earning the GED and pursuing post-secondary education)
  • Short-term, actionable skill-building steps (such as mastering specific skills or completing practice tests)
  • Conduct regular check-ins to help students stay motivated and on track

### Hybrid Course Delivery

  • Design and facilitate distance learning experiences that complement in-person instruction and fulfill hybrid class requirements
  • Create engaging online assignments and provide timely feedback on remote work
  • Ensure distance learning components are accessible and effective to adult learners with varying levels of digital literacy

### Instructional Innovation

  • Improve teaching effectiveness by researching and implementing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods
  • Maintain up to date with current adult learning best practices, integrating technology meaningfully, and adapting approaches based on student feedback and outcomes

### Assessment and Record Keeping

  • Assess student progress using formal and informal evaluations, including practice tests and performance tasks
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic progress, and achievement for program accountability and student success tracking

Additional Duties & Responsibilities --------------------------------------

  • Teach engaging and well-structured evening classes, delivering high-quality instruction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities ---------------------------------------------------------

### Education

  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Education or a related field

### Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching adult learners is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to teach multiple subject areas
  • Experience with GED instruction or Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs

### Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong content knowledge in high school-level reading, mathematics, science, and social studies
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for multi-level adult classrooms and adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and educational backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to support adult learners who may have had prior negative educational experiences
  • Proficiency in educational technology and distance learning platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary for maintaining student records and tracking progress
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and commitment to adult learner success
  • Flexibility in scheduling and a supportive, encouraging approach are essential for student retention and success
