Position Summary: The YMCA's Active 6 program plays an important role in the community, helping 6th graders form healthy habits and remain active. Active 6 gives all 6th graders in Missoula County free membership to the YMCA. Active 6 programming is aimed at getting the kids moving for 20-30 minutes, eating a healthy snack, engaged in a group discussion about a weekly topic, and participating in a teambuilding activity to help the participants come together and meet new friends. The Active 6 Coordinator will be responsible for shaping the program, connecting with local schools to provide information, planning structured activities, and adjusting the program while continuing to engage Missoula 6th graders in healthy habit forming activities. The Active 6 Coordinator must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit, community service organization and have the flexibility to work in a constantly changing environment. Works with general supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Adhere to the mission of the YMCA at all times and implements the Y Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Throughout the school year, plan and implement Active 6 Program during after school hours. Responsibilities include preparing Active 6 curriculum; introducing 6th graders to fitness equipment; organizing program supplies & equipment; coordinating shared spaces with the YMCA management team; tracking participation; shopping for supplies; working alongside volunteers in program; transporting participants in YMCA vehicles; communicating with community partners & participant families.
  • Recruit, train, & coordinate schedules for volunteers across Active 6 programs & field trips.
  • Attend 6th grade orientation at Missoula middle schools to promote Active 6.
  • Familiarity using Daxko (YMCA's online membership & registration software) to manage Active 6 memberships. Includes data entry & tracking, coordinating with the YMCA's membership team.
  • Plan and implement Active 6 Field Trips by connecting with Middle School Liaisons at each of Missoula's middle schools; determining dates for field trips; coordinating shared spaces in the YMCA; scheduling volunteer support; and recruiting YMCA management support as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of other YMCA youth programs including but not limited to: Afterschool, Family Fun Time, Midday Move, Summer Camps, School's Out Day Camps, Parents' Night Out, Rock Climbing, SPLASH, Teen Clubs, Youth Sports.
  • Support in the organization of special events including but not limited to: Annual Meeting, Annual Support Campaign (fundraising), The Riverbank Run, and other promotional tabling events.
  • Attend quarterly "State of the Y" management team meeting.
  • Know and enforce YMCA emergency procedures and safety regulations in order to ensure member and program participant safety.
  • Communicate effectively with the Welcome Center and other YMCA employees to ensure accurate program registration information, coordination of shared spaces, etc.
  • Operate YMCA vehicles safely and efficiently, following all relevant laws, policies, and procedures
  • Clean and maintain office spaces, closets, buses and surrounding areas.
  • Manage the tracking of volunteer trainings and hours in program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Required – High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred – Secondary education classes in sports or physical fitness related subjects

Experience

  • Required – Experience with leading volunteers or instructing/coaching youth
  • Required – Working with children
  • Required – Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new office software
  • Required - Certification in CPR and First Aid – can be obtained at the YMCA
