Accounting Manager

Matrix Medical Management is looking for a full-time Accounting Manager to join our team in our Bellaire office! The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing general accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and leading themonth-end and year-end close processes. This role supervises accounting staff, maintains the general ledger, and ensures compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The Accounting Manager partners with the Controller to support financial reporting, audits, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

Essential functions include overseeing and maintaining the general ledger, leading and ensuring timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes, reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy, maintaining supporting documentation for all accounting transactions and financial records, monitoring and reconciling bank accounts and supporting cash management activities, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal accounting policies, maintaining and monitoring internal controls related to accounting processes and financial reporting, coordinating and supporting internal and external audits, responding to requests for financial information from leadership and auditors, assisting with financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting as needed, identifying and supporting process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls, collaborating with other departments to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions, reviewing expenses for policy compliance and appropriate classification, supervising, mentoring, and developing accounting staff, assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work assignments to ensure deadlines and accuracy standards are met, approving employee timesheets and managing team scheduling, including PTO, coverage, cross-training, and workload balancing, conducting performance evaluations in collaboration with the Controller, providing coaching, feedback, and performance management, including corrective action when necessary in partnership with Human Resources, ensuring staff are properly trained and cross-trained to support departmental continuity and efficiency, and performing other related tasks as needed.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and GAAP, strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to develop, coach, and mentor staff, high level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting, strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP or similar), ability to maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes, strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate financial information to leadership, ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across teams, and demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and operational efficiency.

Education and experience include a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, or four years of experience in lieu of education, four years of accounting experience in a healthcare setting, and three years of experience in a leadership role.
