This role is being created to support a large S/4HANA transformation initiative at Amtrak, as either direct support to the project or as department support.  This project is expected to run approximately 2-3 years.  As this position is tied to that project work, continuation of work after completion of the project would depend on business needs at that time.

 

Job Summary

Lead, manage, and maintain a system of internal controls related to processing, analyzing, recording, billing and reconciliation of accounting transactions in relation to the management of the corporate-wide accounts receivable and revenue functions. Coordinate and manage general accounting functions, business processes, maintain accuracy of the ledger accounts, reconcile account balances, and the resultant financial statements. Report on accounts receivable and past due status. Manage collection activities including sending follow-up inquiries, negotiating with past due accounts on repayment terms, and decisions on referring accounts to collection agencies and/or writing off accounts receivable. Manage, train, and develop the accounting staff, which includes performance monitoring, evaluation and implementing personnel actions.

Essential Functions

  • Implement and develop robust accounting controls and Finance policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processes and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Train and supervise staff and lead business processes and projects. 
  • Manage relationships with Amtrak departments, internal stakeholders, and external auditors to facilitate smooth financial operations.
  • Handle invoicing in accordance with contract terms, ensuring accurate billing revenue for Commuter, Reimbursable, and capital/grants.
  • Conduct monthly close and variance analysis, reconcile balance sheet accounts, validate budget preparation for both revenue and expense accounts, and provide timely and reliable management information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 7 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 9 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and GAAS and application to internal controls. 
  • Proficiency with integrated accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated skill in leading, managing, and motivating team members with varying expertise.
  • Ability to lead complex projects, delegate tasks, handle multiple priorities, and manage staff effectively.
  • Skilled in policy and procedure development, including those around business systems and integrations. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including formal presentations.
  • Honest, ethical, reliable. 

The salary/hourly range is $113,200.00 – $146,664.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
