About Us:

Tradition Services, LLC is a contracting company providing Plumbing and HVAC installation, service, and design solutions to clients throughout the greater Houston area, built on a foundation of quality craftsmanship and operational integrity.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly qualified Accounting Manager to join our finance team. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial data, and providing the financial leadership necessary to support a growing contracting operation in the Houston metropolitan market.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction or contracting finance, a thorough understanding of GAAP, and the discipline and attention to detail required to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. This is a mid-level position for a professional who is prepared to take ownership of the accounting function, lead a small team, and serve as a trusted financial resource for operations and executive leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Construction Accounting Manager will be responsible for the following functions in support of operations leadership and executive management:

  • Manage and oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including the preparation of accurate internal financial statements and management reporting packages
  • Own and maintain comprehensive job costing, project profitability analysis, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting functions essential to the financial performance of a mechanical contracting business
  • Help establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures consistent with GAAP and company standards to ensure financial accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external audits, tax filings, bonding requirements, and financial reviews
  • Collaborate with project managers and field operations leadership on the financial components of HVAC and mechanical projects, including change orders, retainage tracking, lien waivers, and contract billing
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and assist executive leadership with financial forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of Texas sales tax filings, payroll tax compliance, and any applicable multi-entity reporting requirements
  • Supervise accounting staff, establishing a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department
  • Research and resolve complex accounting issues, ensuring continued compliance with applicable regulations and construction industry best practices
  • Serve as the primary financial point of contact for external auditors, tax professionals, banking relationships, and bonding agents
  • Provide executive leadership with ad-hoc financial analysis, reporting, and strategic support as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; CPA designation or active candidacy strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years in a management or supervisory role within a construction or contracting environment
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with job costing, project-based accounting, WIP reporting, and the percentage-of-completion method
  • Experience with construction-specific accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation, or comparable platforms, as well as advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Thorough understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions in a contracting environment
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities with an uncompromising standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to translate financial information for non-finance personnel across operations and project management

Preferred:

  • CPA licensure or documented progress toward completion of CPA requirements
  • Familiarity with Texas sales tax regulations, multi-entity payroll compliance, and construction contract billing including AIA billing formats
  • Experience managing accounting for a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or general contracting company
  • Prior experience in a small-to-mid-sized company environment.
  • Familiarity with bonding, insurance certificates, and subcontractor compliance documentation
