POSITION DESCRIPTIONResponsible for supervising and leading the WFCU accounting team in the execution of the credit union's accounting and payment processes in accordance with regulatory and industry standards. Responsibilities include internal and external financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, fund management, budgeting and related monitoring, ACH and share draft processing.ResponsibilitiesAssist the VP Accounting and Controller to lead the WFCU Accounting team, including recruiting, coaching, and direction of highly skilled employees while creating a positive work environment.Assist to supervise the development, implementation, and monitoring of sound accounting practices, policies, and internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.Understanding and performing the VP Accounting & Controller duties in their absence.Assisting in implementing new accounting standards.Assisting in the preparation of the CECL calculation.Regular attendance at the worksite.Prepare other financial reports as directed.Monitor document retention and dispose of documents as necessary.Understand all aspects of the accounting department functions and systems.Assisting in the training of department personnel.Maintains a high-quality member and departmental service attitude.Assists in developing policies and procedures.Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts.Other duties / special projects as assigned.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Finance.At least 3 years of work experience in public accounting, controlling, financial analytics, and/or corporate finance within a fast‑paced and dynamic business environment.Extensive experience in project management and leadership/managerial roles.Certified Public Accountant designation.Proven ability to develop sound policies, procedures, and practices for improved operating controls, productivity, and/or efficiency.Demonstrated experience in staff growth and development.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including skills in a collaborative capacity.Exceptional skills in creating reports and recommendations for the Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, and the Management Team as required.Demonstrated ability to work with detail while meeting daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.Excellent computer skills, including Excel, and experience working with accounting software programs.Ability to use analytical and independent judgment for process improvements and problem resolution.Specialized or Technical Knowledge and SkillsExperience in GAAP, general accounting procedures, and regulations that govern accounting for Credit Unions or similar financial institutions.Knowledge and ability to develop sound procedures, policies, and practices.Detail orientation and continuous improvement mindset.Behavioral CompetenciesServant Leadership: leads through change and adversity, makes tough calls when needed, builds consensus, motivates, encourages others, acknowledges that effective leadership demonstrates empathy, stewardship, and commitment.Job Knowledge: understands duties, has necessary job knowledge, keeps knowledge current.Productivity: manages a fair workload, prioritizes tasks, develops good work procedures, manages time well.Quality: attentive to detail, committed to excellence, looks for continuous improvements, monitors quality levels, owns and acts on quality problems.Interpersonal Skills: good listening skills, builds strong relationships, flexible, negotiates effectively, solicits performance feedback and handles constructive criticism.Core CompetenciesMember Focus (internal and external): build member confidence, commit to increasing member satisfaction, set achievable member expectations, solve member problems, ensure commitments to members are met.Dependability: meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, stays focused under pressure.Integrity/Ethics: deals with others straightforwardly and honestly, maintains confidentiality, supports company values.Job Specific CompetenciesMaintains composure in a variety of situations.Builds consensus, motivates and encourages others.Solicits performance feedback and handles constructive criticism.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
