Accounting Manager – Cost Accounting Focus

Vaco is partnering with one of our clients to identify an experienced Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations with a strong focus on cost accounting and process improvement. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, manufacturing or production-oriented environment and enjoys collaborating cross-functionally to drive results.


Summary

The Accounting Manager will oversee general ledger management, cost accounting, and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for maintaining accuracy in financial data, managing inventory and product costing, and supporting leadership with meaningful financial insights. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and motivated to strengthen accounting processes while mentoring a small team.


Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:

  • Oversee cost accounting processes including standard cost updates, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.

  • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to review material, labor, and overhead costs.

  • Analyze production variances and provide recommendations to improve cost efficiency.

Financial Close & Reporting:

  • Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Ensure accurate reporting of financial results in compliance with US GAAP.

  • Review and analyze P&L performance, margins, and balance sheet accounts.

Leadership & Internal Controls:

  • Supervise accounting staff and ensure deadlines are met for AP, AR, and GL functions.

  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and external regulations.

  • Collaborate with management to identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements.

Business Partnership & Analysis:

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to production and cost analysis.

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and insights to leadership to aid strategic decision-making.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA preferred.

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

  • Strong background in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing, distribution, or production environment.

  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP and internal controls.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or NetSuite a plus.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
