ACCOUNTING MANAGER – LAW FIRM
Location: Denver, CO On‑Site (Flexible Hours Within Reason)
Our client, a long‑established litigation defense law firm, is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to lead its accounting operations in Denver. This is a senior, high‑impact role overseeing billing, collections, financial reporting, trust accounting, and the day‑to‑day management of two accounting clerks. The firm has 35 attorneys, a stable and long‑tenured staff, and a collaborative culture.
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
CPA preferred, especially for candidates at the top of the compensation range
5+ years of substantive accounting experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment
Strong understanding of trust accounting, settlement check handling, and legal‑industry ethical rules
Experience with Tabs3 or similar legal billing/accounting software
Demonstrated ability to manage billing, collections, and financial reporting with accuracy and urgency
Proven ability to supervise and develop staff
Highly organized, assertive, proactive, and comfortable owning financial operations
Ability to work fully on‑site, with some flexibility in daily schedule
Professionalism, sound judgment, and strong communication skills are essential
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the firm’s accounting department, including two accounting clerks
Oversee all billing processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoice generation
Drive an assertive, structured collections strategy to reduce aging A/R
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for shareholder review
Maintain and improve internal controls, ensuring accuracy across all financial workflows
Manage trust accounting in compliance with Colorado ethical rules
Handle settlement checks, retainers, and client funds with precision
Conduct financial analysis to support firm leadership and strategic planning
Coordinate and execute year‑end financial processes
Attend weekly Wednesday management meetings at noon
Collaborate with attorneys, staff, and leadership to streamline processes and enhance financial performance
