Accounting Manager, Inventory and Project Accounting

A growing, project-driven organization is seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager to join its team in the Huntsville, Alabama area. Position Overview

This role will oversee financial operations tied to project execution, including inventory tracking, cost accounting, reporting, and forecasting. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial data, supporting decision-making, and maintaining compliance with applicable guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee inventory tracking and reporting within an internal project accounting system
  • Develop reports to monitor material usage, purchasing activity, and project performance
  • Forecast and track short-term material spend and project-related costs
  • Partner with internal teams to align budgets, forecasts, and operational plans
  • Establish and maintain project cost structures and financial controls
  • Support indirect cost planning and overall cost management strategies
  • Lead aspects of the monthly close process, including reconciliations and expense tracking
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contractual terms
  • Monitor vendor activity, timelines, and financial impact
  • Manage customer billing processes and support timely collections efforts
  • Assist in preparing required financial reports, including those tied to government projects
  • Support audit requests and maintain organized financial documentation
  • Track contracts, modifications, and billing-related records
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support project and leadership decisions
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Identify and communicate financial risks related to supply chain or project execution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, procurement, and operations teams
  • Serve as a point of contact for billing and financial inquiries

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience
  • Prior experience in a managerial or lead capacity

Core Skills

  • Experience with project-based accounting and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with government contracting environments and cost principles
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting practices
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, or similar certification
  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction, inventory, or project-based industries
  • Exposure to project accounting systems (e.g., ERP platforms designed for contract environments)
  • Advanced Excel or financial modeling skills
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting
