Accounting Manager

An established nonprofit organization in Buffalo, NY is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance team. This full-time, permanent position offers a salary range of $75,000–$90,000, depending on experience, along with excellent benefits, long-term stability, and a collaborative workplace culture.
This Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while helping lead and support a small accounting team. The role includes exposure to fund accounting, investment and trust accounting, grant oversight, budgeting, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. This is a 100% in-office position in Buffalo, NY.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure financial processes run efficiently
- Manage, mentor, and support accounting staff and related administrative personnel
- Oversee fund, investment, and trust accounting activities, including income allocations and Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs)
- Monitor grant and distribution accounting processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Oversee gift, stock, and contribution accounting activities
- Prepare budgets, financial reports, and quarterly reporting packages for leadership and stakeholders
- Analyze financial data and conduct budget-to-actual reporting
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement operational efficiencies
- Assist with evaluating and improving accounting systems and workflows
- Train staff on new accounting procedures and financial systems
- Support audits and ensure strong financial controls and reporting accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 3+ years of accounting experience in nonprofit, public accounting, fund accounting, investment accounting, or related environments
- Supervisory or mentorship experience preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office/Excel
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000–$90,000, depending on experience
- 18 PTO days annually, increasing with tenure
