Growth Track to Director of Accounting

Location: Bethesda, MD (Hybrid – 4 Days Onsite)

Our client, a rapidly growing financial services and wealth advisory organization, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its expanding finance team in the Bethesda market.

Position Overview

The Accounting Manager will oversee core accounting operations and lead the monthly close process while partnering closely with leadership on process improvement and operational initiatives.

This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment where they can both execute and influence. The position offers significant exposure to leadership, operational visibility across the business, and a clear path for growth into a future senior leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Close Management

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting activities including:
    • General ledger
    • Journal entries
    • Account reconciliations
    • AP/AR
    • Billing and payroll support
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain and enhance close processes, timelines, and reporting workflows

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Support annual audit and tax processes alongside external partners
  • Assist with regulatory and tax-related reporting requirements

Process Improvement & Infrastructure

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and operational efficiency
  • Help strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Support implementation of scalable processes as the organization continues to grow
  • Partner on future systems and reporting enhancements

Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operational and leadership teams
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff
  • Support ad hoc reporting, analysis, and strategic finance initiatives
  • Work closely with senior leadership on departmental priorities and growth initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accrual-based accounting and monthly close processes
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience working within a small to mid-sized or high-growth environment preferred
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience is a plus

Preferred Background

  • Experience within financial services, wealth management, or professional services environments
  • Exposure to audit support and tax coordination processes
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting platforms preferred
