    Type: Full TimeResponsibilitiesDeliver a high level of member service to internal and external members in alignment with the credit union's Service Promises.Daily management of accounting activities and supervision of Accounting Department employees.Ensure ongoing GL reporting and reconciliation activity is efficiently and effectively carried out by the department.Reconcile, monitor and update fixed-asset subsidiary records.Reconcile, monitor and update prepaid records.Establish and maintain effective accounting procedures.Process, work and remit escheatment of unclaimed account funds and uncashed checks.Process and remit property assessments.Perform accounting duties as necessary to support the department.Ensure that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations.Hold periodic staff meetings to discuss areas that need improvement, changes in procedures, new developments or services and to present general information.In conjunction with the Director of Finance & Accounting and Human Resources, responsible for interviewing and hiring department staff, including establishing performance expectations and appraising performance.Develop each employee to their highest potential by identifying their areas for improvement and appropriately coaching, training or correcting the employees' performance.Recognize employees who perform at a high level.Hold employees accountable for their performance, attitude and behavior.Meet with each employee monthly to review previous month's performance, discuss goals and develop plans to improve employee's performance.Provide guidance, coaching and training to staff and assist with all non-routine matters.Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained staff to meet the accounting needs of the credit union.Exercise critical thinking to resolve issues, make improvements, and lead the team in embracing new ideas.Demonstrate enthusiastic support of corporate mission, core values and long-term objectives.Promote an atmosphere and model the behavior for all employees to think critically to resolve issues, suggest improvements and encourage new ideas.Attend and participate in Credit Union training and meetings.Other duties and special projects as assigned.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting.Minimum three years' experience in an accounting environment.Minimum three years of managerial experience.Experience in the financial industry preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for leading, managing and developing employees.Extensive mathematical skills required (concepts and calculations).Strong PC skills with extensive knowledge of Excel (formulas and macros) and Microsoft Office Suite is required.Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.Strong oral and written communication skills.Must be detail oriented and be able to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.Ability to learn and adapt to new technology quickly.Operate with a high moral integrity and maintain confidential information.Ability to develop short and long-term objectives, operating plans and policies.Ability to effectively lead and develop leaders.Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions to solve problems.Ability to project a high degree of professionalism and positive image of themselves and the credit union.Ability to speak and present information effectively in front of large groups.Team-oriented and demonstrated skill in leading a high-functioning, cohesive team.Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications.Other RequirementsSchedule may require time over 40-hour workweek.
