About the Indiana Office of Energy Development:


The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) was established to shepherd the state’s energy plan. Role Overview:


The Accountant will work under the Finance Director in managing the daily administration of funding inflows and outflows for the assigned grant programs. This will include processing accounts payable and receivable, vouchers, deposits, reimbursement requests, federal revenue draws, and other financial processes. The Accountant will be expected serve as the point of contact for all financial matters surrounding their assigned grant program. The incumbent will provide support to the Finance Director in budget analysis and fiscal oversight for each assigned grant program and support the Finance Director in ensuring that all grant programs are properly accounting for all funded activities.





Experience

+ Experience with PeopleSoft Financials preferred.

+ Experience with public finance and accounting a plus.

+ Experience with managing public funds a plus.

+ Experience managing federal funds a plus.

+ 3+ years of accounting experience preferred.

+ Analytically-inclined and enjoys working with data a plus.

+ Knowledge of energy sector a bonus.








Salary Statement:


The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.







A Day in the Life:



The essential functions of this role are as follows:



+ Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards.


+ Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.


+ Assist the supervisor in analyzing budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.


+ Advise the controller or supervisor on the status of assigned accounts.


+ Assist in the development of general policies for a fiscal program.


+ Assist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.


+ Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts and notifies the appropriate department or supervisor of errors.


+ Prepare reports for reconciliation of grant funded accounts.


+ Analyze and interpret financial statements and reports for accuracy.


+ Serve as liaison between agency and the federal government or other funding source for assigned account.


+ Coordinate computerized accounting system within assigned area.


+ Control the flow of appropriated funds.


+ Direct the work of lower-level accountants and account clerks assisting in complex or unusual situations.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.





What You'll Need for Success:




+ Bachelor’s degree with a background in accounting, finance, economics, or related field required.


+ Strong attention to deadlines and guidelines.


+ Ability to maintain confidentiality.


+ Familiarity with cash and accrual accounting principles.


+ Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and adapt to different projects and/or tasks.


+ Ability to identify financial discrepancies and work effectively within agency internal controls.






Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:



This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
