WHO WE''RE LOOKING FOR

The Accountant II position is responsible for providing financial information to management with primary focus on fixed asset accounting, capitalization, and compliance. This role includes analyzing accounting data, maintaining accurate fixed asset records, and preparing intermediate to advanced financial reports in accordance with applicable standards and organization policies.

WHAT YOU BRING

Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the required degree on a year for year basis up to four (4) years.

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience reconciling financial accounts, preparation of journal entries, and experience with fixed assets, capitalization, or capital project accounting.

Experience with fixed asset subledger systems; capital project tracking, and Oracle Fusion software preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB) and capital asset reporting preferred.

Intermediate level experience working in Windows environment (Word, Excel) utilizing financial application software.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Knowledge of the preparation process of financial statements in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.

Knowledge of financial reporting concepts and preferred business practices.

Skilled in effective verbal and written communication; analyzing and interpreting financial records; processing performing basic mathematical calculations; processing large volumes of numerical data; classifying fiscal data and compiling fund level statements and reports; designing spreadsheets and utilizing word processing and database software; analyzing, preparing, checking and balancing routine fiscal transactions and accounts. preparing reports and interpreting applicable policies, regulations, and guidelines.

Ability to prepare accurate financial statements at an intermediate level of complexity.Skill in

Ability to resolve problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departmental peers.

This role is based in Austin, Texas and requires relocation to the Austin area prior to start date.

WHAT YOU''LL BE DOING

Fixed Asset Accounting & Compliance

Support fixed asset accounting activities, including capitalization, disposals, transfers, and depreciation in compliance with GASB standards and organizational policy.

Maintain reconciliations of the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.

Review and approve capital expenditures, ensuring appropriate application of capitalization criteria, useful lives, funding treatment, and asset classification.

Research, interpret, and support implementation of new and existing GASB pronouncements, ensuring compliance and appropriate application in financial reporting.

Construction in Progress (CIP) & Capital Projects

Own and monitor Construction in Progress (CIP), including activity tracking, aging analysis, identification of cancelled or stalled projects, and timely capitalization or closure.

Oversee capitalization of project and labor costs, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with accounting policies.

Partner with project managers and departments to support accurate project accounting and timely asset placement in service.

Reconciliations, Close & Reporting

Prepare, review, and post journal entries related to fixed assets, including depreciation, capitalization, disposals, transfers, and CIP activities.

Support month-end and year-end close through reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis of fixed asset balances.

Asset Lifecycle Management & Controls

Perform asset lifecycle activities, including additions, retirements, transfers, impairments, vehicle title maintenance, and coordination of periodic physical inventories.

Support maintenance and continuous improvement of fixed asset capitalization policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Audit, Analysis & Stakeholder Support

Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation; coordinate with internal and external auditors.

Analyze capital expenditures and asset trends to support management reporting and decision making.

Maintain financial security by following established internal accounting controls.

Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authoritys Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.

Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
