Accountant (2026-2027 School Year)

Job Status: UNTIL FILLED Posting Date: 05/05/2026 Posting Number: 013575 Location: Accounting Position Title: Accountant (2026-2027 School Year) Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of Accounting / Assistant Superintendent Finance and Operations

Primary Purpose:

Assist with administration of the district's accounting office. Perform general accounting and maintain district financial records. Monitor and control grant/award programs and construction accounts.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Word, Excel, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to detect and resolve problems
  • Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Three to five years of progressive accounting and software experience, preferably in a public school environment.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain complete and systematic records of the district's financial transactions.
  • Process, maintain, and report on all federal, state, and local grants and/or awards.
  • Assist district staff with budget revisions, research, and analysis for federal programs.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Reconcile cash, investments, and tax revenues monthly to include bank and investment reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly board reports.
  • Maintain general ledger and prepare and record monthly journal entries to include revenue, tax, interest income, etc.
  • Assist with preparation for annual financial audit including fixed asset maintenance, year-end entries, account analysis, account reconciliations and audit schedules.
  • Prepare documentation and assist with additional audits such as internal or TEA Audits.
  • Prepare Texas Unclaimed Property Submission.
  • Perform such other duties, and assume such other responsibilities, as may be assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain effective rapport with faculty, staff, and general public, handling any problems or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  • Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign.

Salary: Pay Grade PG02, $353.45 - $417.32 daily rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
