POSITION OVERVIEW
Gene by Gene is seeking a candidate to join our Laboratory Accessioning Team. The role of the DNA Lab Accessioning Clerk is to handle receipt, documentation, review, and check-in of samples into the lab. The position involves sample handling, related clerical functions, and area maintenance and organization, as well as occasional laboratory assistant functions within the laboratory.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives and documents the receipt of samples into the laboratory
- Opens sample packages and inspects, sorts, and routes the samples appropriately
- Documents and checks samples into the correct databases
- Troubleshoots issues with samples, such as missing or incorrect information, mismatched barcodes, unpaid accounts, damaged samples, incorrectly collected samples etc.
- Assists with pickup of samples from USPS; Is responsible for ensuring loss prevention and integrity of samples.
- Documents and checks samples into the correct databases / LIMS systems.
- Answers emails and questions from other departments
- Maintains documentation required for sample tracking through the department.
- Scans and saves consent forms, requisitions, and any other documents arriving with the samples.
- Performs additional similar administrative and organizational tasks in the department as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the team area, including daily and weekly cleaning tasks (trash removal, sweeping of debris, wipe-down of work surfaces, etc.).
- Assists with some laboratory assistant-type functions, including tasks such as racking tips, filling tubes, washing racks, cleaning, and organization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Technical Skills & Accuracy
- Strong computer proficiency with fast and accurate data entry skills (minimum typing speed of 40–50 WPM preferred).
- High attention to detail with a proven track record of maintaining exceptional accuracy during repetitive, routine tasks.
- Demonstrated capability in sample management, including safely handling, labeling, sorting, and logging specimens according to strict protocols.
- Strong comprehension skills with the ability to quickly learn, understand, and implement complex operational instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once trained, while maintaining high productivity.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for collaborating with team members and documenting discrepancies.

PRFERRED REQUIREMENTS
