Title of Position: Accessibility Coordinator - This is a full-time, 11-month position.

Function of Position:

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) supports the academic success of all Wartburg students while focusing intentionally on students who face barriers to academic success and creating programming for in-semester academic intervention. Responsible to the Academic Success Programs Director, the Accessibility Coordinator provides proactive academic and personal guidance to students throughout their undergraduate careers to address academic skills gaps, develop executive functioning behavior, and enhance socio-emotional well-being. This position is responsible for administering all college accommodations for academic, housing, and dietary disability-related needs in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 program compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the campus ADA compliance coordinator, administering appropriate accommodations. Provide support to students, faculty, staff, and campus community in the implementation of these accommodations. (60%)

  • Develop accommodation plans with students and respective classroom faculty, Residential Life, or Dining Services using medical and/or psychological documentation and other sources of information.

  • Collaborate with the ARC Office Coordinator to ensure accommodations testing operations run smoothly.

  • Keep accurate records, analyze data, and prepare reports related to these services.

  • Provide professional development for faculty and staff to increase disability awareness and promote methods for inclusive education.

  • Oversee campus compliance with ADA/Section 504, increasing community awareness and working to make Wartburg more accessible for all students.

  • Maintain working knowledge of current trends, legislation, national, state, and local issues affecting access for students with disabilities.

  • Provide proactive academic support and accountability to students identified by various academic recovery processes. (30%)

  • Manage an on-going caseload of assigned students who fall into categories of academic probation and academic notice utilizing the ARC Academic Success Commitment.

  • Coordinate and respond to just-in-time academic intervention initiatives through formal and informal referrals by conducting self-assessments and creating academic success plans.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement academic resources that promote a successful transition to college and maintain those supports as needed.

  • Maintain up to date documentation of work with students using Gateway, a Pharos360 student success platform.

  • Manage alternative and external testing opportunities for campus partners and current students. (5%)

  • Administer the ACT exam twice per academic year in compliance with ACT expectations.

  • Schedule and supervise CLEP examinations for current Wartburg students as requested by the student.

  • Promote and represent the Academic Resource Center and its services at various campus and community functions. Including participation with institutional committees, classroom visits, and at events such as Visit Days, Scholarship Days, Summer Orientation Advising and Registration, etc. (5%)

Supervision:

Employee works independently toward established objectives requiring the use of a wide range of procedures. Employee prioritizes own work and resolves unusual cases in consultation with supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and minimum three years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning and physical disabilities and their impact on academic success
  • Experience with the use/application/interpretation of assessment instruments and diagnostic tests for students with disabilities
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related field and prior experience working in a higher education setting, including:

  • Knowledge and application of various assistive technologies in a college setting
  • Support of students with academic, personal, and professional success plans
  • Creation and facilitation of presentations or workshop content
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics and pressures of college students and a strong interest in actively engaging to support student success and satisfaction
