About the Opportunity

The Academic and Career Pathway Advisor will employ a case-management model to implement a systematic schedule for student check-ins, problem-solving and life skills development as well as actively assisting students in navigating college systems by providing comprehensive advising including career, pathway and academic guidance and making referrals when appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews to determine program acceptance.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments.
  • Research career information and guide career and educational pathway plans.
  • Develop individualized plans for undecided students and provide support with course selection, registration, major changes and academic plans.
  • Monitor student progress through communication with faculty and use of progress report and early alert systems.
  • Develop success plans for students on academic probation or at risk of not meeting the Kalamazoo Valley Accelerated Associates Program (KVAAP) expectations.
  • Develop block scheduling to streamline registration process and maximize schedule efficiency for students.
  • Develop and facilitate seminar content and activities including soft skills workshops.
  • Attend college events to promote KVAAP.
  • Identify and establish partnerships with local employers to create flexible part-time employment and career-decision making opportunities for KVAAP students.
  • Represent the assigned pathway in proactively recruiting and enrolling students in activities and events.
  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate activities such as classroom presentations, workshops, orientations, special targeted events and outreach initiatives for Student Development Services.
  • Develop self-assessment tools and curriculum for college-wide programming.
  • Develop strong relationships with Kalamazoo Valley faculty and staff to foster a culture of student development and success.
  • Act as a liaison to faculty within assigned pathway and work in conjunction with First Year Experience (FYE) faculty to support students enrolled in FYE courses.
  • Review weekly student check-ins. Monitor grades, provide a touchpoint for enhanced student support and follow up to previous students/advisor discussions.
  • Actively manage a caseload of students in an efficient, holistic and individualized manor.
  • Proactively monitor an advising caseload to identify and address factors that may contribute to student attrition.

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate education, training, experience and talents are a requirement. An example of this would be an earned bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Physical Demands: Work Hours: Varies, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
