DEFINITION: The ABSS will work with the principal, faculty, students and parents to provide general administrative duties to promote increased academic achievement. The ABSS assists the school administrator and school leadership teams in developing, administering and coordinating academic and socio-emotional supports that will help students succeed. The ABSS will increase the level of existing communication between home and school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class).

TASKS:

Oversees student discipline and ensures due process is followed, assists the principal with curriculum and instruction and staff professional development; shares supervision and participation in evening and weekend events with the principal; assists the principal with supervision and evaluation of classified and certified employees; meets with high-risk students (i.e., not making sufficient growth in meeting state standards and/or not completing grade level standards) and determines intervention plans; plans will include continuous monitoring and academic support using district resources.

Collaborates with principal, instructional coach and counselor in implementing academic and social interventions for at-risk students; collaborates with principal for attendance reporting and develop systems to improve both student and faculty attendance; communicates with all lead teachers regarding status of targeted students in need of high-level academic intervention; participates as a member of the school's Site Council and Site Leadership Team; assists in the formulation of master schedule; supervises special projects as assigned by the principal; assists in recruitment, interviewing, and talent management of staff; serves as the administrative designee in the absence of the principal; participate in required district trainings/meetings and provide appropriate follow-up; coordination of school and district assessments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of Developmental Assets, Resiliency and other strength-based models

Knowledge and experience in Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practice.

Knowledge of interventions available for student to increase student's school achievement and engagement in school.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development (needs behaviors).

Knowledge of school, district, and community resources.

Knowledge of crisis intervention and management.

Knowledge of parenting skills and behavior management.

Knowledge of cultural diversity, value systems, social and economic conditions and related issues.

Knowledge of school law, mandatory reporting, child welfare laws, regulations and guidelines.

Expertise in Arizona College and Career Ready StandardsSkill in effective written and oral communication.

Ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with student/families, staff, and community agencies.

Ability in analyzing situations and information and using sound judgment to make decisions and determining appropriate course of action.

Ability in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating intervention activities.

Ability to compile accurate data and prepare clear and concise reports and communications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 50 pounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Education Leadership or closely related field.

Principal Certification

Minimum 2 years leadership experience

Minimum 5 years teaching/educational experience

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual Spanish/English
