The James and Gail Ellis School of Business Leadership (formerly Anderson School of Management) at The University of New Mexico (UNM) is looking for an outstanding communicator with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to join our growing team as a Senior Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Programs. Reporting directly to our Manager of Academic Advisement, the Sr. Academic Advisor will support the advisement needs of Ellis's undergraduate students and provide high quality services that positively impact the retention, graduation, and overall success of our student population.
Now is an exciting time to join our team. In May 2026, UNM received a historic $30 million gift from longtime supporters James and Gail Ellis to be directed toward the advancement of business leadership education at UNM. In recognition of their generosity, the Anderson School of Management was renamed The James and Gail Ellis School of Business Leadership.
Ellis School of Business Leadership is a world-class business school with award winning faculty and programs, offering a wide array of degree programs for a diverse student population. At Ellis, you will be joining a distinguished organization with a rich history of delivering top-tier business education to students and a staff team who work hard daily to create a rich environment where we can thrive while delivering outstanding results and service to our internal and external customers.
The Senior Academic Advisor should have a holistic and student-centered approach to advisement and provide guidance to prospective and current students from pre-orientation through graduation. The Senior Academic Advisor will be expected to recommend appropriate courses based on a student's academic level as they progress through the curriculum to degree completion, while maintaining accurate academic records in Student Hub and related degree tracking/audit systems (LoboTrax). This position will connect students to campus resources and services that support the student's successful journey through their degree program.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of producing high-quality results, successfully maintaining progress across multiple projects and deadlines, working efficiently with minimal supervision, and adapting to changing priorities. Additionally, they need to be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be comfortable making public presentations, as evidenced by their cover letter and resume. We seek to hire dynamic individuals who will demonstrate excellence in customer service and the ability to work with teams as well as a variety of students, faculty, staff and members of the business community in order to promote student success and align with the vision and mission of Ellis and UNM. Because of Ellis' unique student populations, our Senior Academic Advisors must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends and must be able to attend recruitment and other student-oriented events on and off campus.
