Major/Essential Functions

The Whitacre College of Engineering seeks a student‑centered, collaborative Academic Advisor to support undergraduate engineering students across all majors and minors. This role provides comprehensive advising, supports recruitment and retention initiatives, and contributes to the overall success of the college through cross‑campus partnerships and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic advising and degree planning for engineering students, including transfer credit and degree applicability.
  • Support student success and retention through progress monitoring, probation advising, workshops, and referrals.
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, and enrollment events; assist with outreach and student staffing as needed.  Collaborate with community college partners on articulation and enrollment (some travel as needed).
  • Maintain accurate advising records and analyze student data using institutional systems.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure consistent policy interpretation, resolve enrollment issues, and support special programs, presentations, and events (some travel required).

About the Department and/or College

The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE) was one of the university’s original four colleges founded in 1925 and later renamed in honor of Edward E. Whitacre, Jr.  The WCOE has seven departments and approximately 4800 undergraduate and 1300 graduate students.  There are approximately 220 faculty/instructors and 115 staff in the college. “We are a regionally rooted first class engineering college with national and worldwide impact.”

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
