About the UNT Honors College
The Honors College helps approximately 2,000 undergraduate students get the most out of their UNT experience by providing in-class and extracurricular activities that are broader, deeper, or more complex than the norm. Honors College members may take Honors courses, engage in undergraduate research, participate in Honors College programming, live in Honors College housing, and enjoy other membership benefits.
The goal of the Honors College is to help these students build an excellent foundation that prepares them for studying at the graduate level and establishing a fulfilling career.
Position Overview
The Honors Academic Advisor provides academic advising services for members of the college, and assists with a variety of administrative projects related to Honors retention and award completion. Specific time responsibilities:50: Advising firstyear, transfer, and continuing Honors College Students.30: Various administrative tasks assigned by supervisor and the Associate Dean of the Honors College.20: Professional development College and campus committee work, professional organization membership.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong presentation skills. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively with populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively. Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Preferred Qualifications
Honors experience.
