Job Summary
The Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University seeks an Instructional Design Coach to advance teaching excellence and educational innovation within undergraduate medical education. This position partners with faculty to enhance course design, implement evidence-based teaching strategies, and create engaging learning experiences that support student success and align with institutional goals.
The Instructional Design Coach serves as a trusted educational consultant, providing individualized coaching, facilitating faculty development, and promoting best practices in instructional design and curriculum development. The coach will collaborate with faculty to analyze learning needs, design effective instructional materials, integrate educational technology, and foster innovative pedagogical approaches. This individual cultivates a culture of teaching excellence by mentoring faculty in learner-centered instruction and supporting continuous improvement of the medical education experience. Faculty rank will be determined based upon the successful candidates qualifications and experience.
Faculty Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching and Faculty Development The Instructional Design Coach provides individualized and small-group coaching to support faculty in designing and refining their courses. The coach works directly with course directors to apply evidence-based instructional design principles, help faculty develop clear and measurable learning objectives, and align assessments, activities, and content with desired outcomes. Curriculum and Program Development The Instructional Design Coach collaborates with institutional partners to support coherent, program-level curriculum design. This includes:
Scholarship and Service Instructional design coaches are expected to contribute to scholarly activity in instructional design, student learning, curriculum design, and/or other related areas. This includes staying current with trends and innovations in instructional design, medical education, and educational technology; engaging in scholarly activity related to instructional design, student learning, and curriculum; facilitating faculty development workshops on topics such as course design, active learning, assessment, and educational technology; and performing other duties as assigned.
