Work Tasks Pick various apple, pear and cherry varieties according to company standards. Selectively harvest fruit based on color, size, and ripeness as instructed. Handle fruit with care to prevent bruising or damage when placing it in bins. Use picking bags and ladders regularly during harvest. Assist in planting new trees, including clearing land, planting, and building trellises. Perform nursery tasks such as hoeing, weeding, planting, irrigating, and pruning. Apply compost and perform general labor to support the development of new orchard blocks. Monitor and care for trees during the growing season: hoeing, tilling, watering, and identifying signs of disease (e.g., blight in apples/pears, gummosis in cherries). Prop and tie limbs to support tree structure and fruit development. Repair and maintain overhead sprinkler and cooling systems. Prepare for harvest by spreading liners in bins and manually rolling bins into orchard rows. Load and unload empty bins by hand and place them in designated orchard areas. Perform mechanical work as needed at the worksite. Maintain cleanliness of the orchard by removing trash, old string, and wire from trellises and blocks. Perform other manual clean-up tasks as assigned. Provide general labor to assist in the establishment of new orchard properties by clearing property, planting trees, building trellis, repair and spreading of composted material and any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of new orchard properties. Cares for trees during growing process- recognize tree disease such as blighted branches in apples and gummosis in cherries. Harvest preparation including spreading liners in bins, rolling bins into blocks by hand. Propping and tying of apple and cherry trees and limbs. Repair sprinklers on overhead cooling system. Load and unload empty bins by hand and place in orchard. Conduct basic repair work at the worksite as required or needed. Conduct mechanical work at the worksite as required or needed. Observation of bruised, damaged or cull fruit by the supervisor will result in a bad bin mark and after three bad bin marks, the worker will receive disciplinary action up to and including termination. A bad bin mark occurs when a bin is inspected and a significant number of culls, bruised or damaged are found by the supervisors. Farm clean up tasks to include picking up garbage around the orchard, removing old string and wire from trellis and orchard blocks, and other hand tasks. Work in nursery environment performing various job duties such as hoeing, weeding, planting and irrigating. Worker will care for young non-producing fruit trees including weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping. Hand thinning of apple and cherry trees to ensure proper fruit load on tree. Pruning of apple, cherry trees. Please Note: Start and end time will vary depending on the commodity or season/weather conditions; Monday - Saturday (35 hours). Workers may start as early as 6:00 am when the temperatures are too hot, their shift may end by 1:00 pm. When temperatures are cold workers may start as later in the day as weather permits. Picking numerous varieties of apples and cherries according to established company procedures accounting for difference in the treatment of different varieties. Hand harvesters may be required to selectively pick only fruit of a certain color and/or size as instructed by the supervisor. Install, operate, and maintain irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot, or other types). Monitor water distribution and adjust systems to ensure proper coverage and efficiency. Inspect irrigation equipment regularly and perform minor repairs or report major issues. Schedule irrigation based on crop needs, soil conditions, and weather forecasts. Maintain accurate records of water usage and irrigation schedules. Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations related to water management. Assist with other farm tasks as needed during non-irrigation periods. Experience with agricultural irrigation systems and water management. Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic irrigation equipment. Knowledge of crop water requirements and soil moisture monitoring. Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to operate farm vehicles/equipment). Operate tractors and sprayers for crop protection, fertilization, and other field applications. Proven experience operating tractors and agricultural sprayers. Knowledge of crop protection products and safe handling procedures. Ability to read and follow application instructions and field maps. Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools. Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in agricultural or heavy equipment. Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to read technical manuals and schematics. Skilled in welding and fabrication (preferred). Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work outdoors when needed. Safely transport H-2A workers between housing, work sites, and other approved destinations. Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned vehicles.
