Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a valid Michigan School Counselor License or Michigan Teaching Certificate with School Counselor (NT) endorsement.

  2. Master's Degree in School Counseling preferred.

  3. Experience working with middle and high school students preferred.

  4. Knowledge of Michigan graduation requirements, state assessments, Section 504 requirements, and student scheduling systems.

  5. Experience with master scheduling, student information systems, and post-secondary planning preferred.

Applicants should demonstrate strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to building positive relationships with students, families, and staff. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with staff while supporting student success through counseling services, academic planning, testing coordination, scheduling, and student support services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling services to support students' academic, social-emotional, and career development.
  • Assist students with academic planning, course selection, graduation requirements, Educational Development Plans (EDPs), and post-secondary planning.
  • Develop and maintain student schedules and coordinate the annual scheduling process for students in grades 7-12.
  • Collaborate with administration to develop, implement, and maintain the master schedule.
  • Monitor student progress toward graduation and communicate concerns to students, parents, and staff.
  • Coordinate state and local assessments, including test preparation, accommodations, administration logistics, training, and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as the building's Section 504 Coordinator, facilitating eligibility meetings, developing plans, ensuring compliance, and monitoring accommodations.
  • Coordinate Dual Enrollment, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Work-Based Learning opportunities for students.
  • Assist students and families with college, career, military, scholarship, and financial aid planning.
  • Facilitate student transition activities between middle school, high school, and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies to support student success.
  • Participate in MTSS, Student Leadership Team (SLT), IEP's, Tier 2, and other student support meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff to help students succeed.
