Position: 6966 Temporary Staff: Academic Coaching & Tutoring Tutor
Department: TTC-Tutoring & Coaching
Anticipated Salary Range: $14.00 - $22.00 per hour commensurate with level of education
Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8 AM - 7 PM and Friday: 8 AM - 1 PM
Campus: Thomas E. Barton Campus
General Responsibilities
- Tutor students who are having academic difficulties in Calculus plus either Physics or Chemistry or Engineering
- Share specific skills and tips for improving academic performance in a course(s).
- Encourage students to improve their academic performance.
- Maintain the required paperwork on each student tutored and submit in a timely manner.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by Campus Coordinator or Director.
Anyone interested in tutoring Math, English, Chemistry, and/or Physics will need to take a Content Knowledge Test before being interviewed.
Minimum Qualifications
- College coursework with an earned "A" or "B" to be tutored. Professional tutors must have a degree, preferably a Bachelor's or a Master's in related teaching discipline.
- Ability to clearly demonstrate and explain knowledge of the course subject matter to students.
- Ability to work independently and with individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to follow departmental procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to pass a Content Knowledge Test (for certain courses) with an 80% or above.
- Must be able to devote an entire semester to tutoring and be able to work on any GTC campus.
- Must be able to tutor students one-on-one and/or in a lab setting.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer).
- Student tutors must be able to work at least 10 hours a week and professional tutors should be able to work at least 20 hours a week.
Note: Current Greenville Technical College students must be able to obtain and submit two (2) faculty recommendations. Forms will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- College coursework with an earned "A" grade in the course to be tutored.
