Job Summary
The Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor is responsible to teach basic and advanced levels of swimming techniques and ensure the safety of the swimmers at the pool. To monitor and maintain safety within the pool area. It is responsible for administering first aid, and instructing swim classes, supervising the swimmers, maintaining the pool area. The Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills • Monitors and observes the pool area for safety, weather, temperature, and other conditions. • Acts as a lifeguard by watching over the swimmers and other patrons to ensure safety. • Performs first aid, CPR, and other rescue functions. • Sets-up the pool area, brings out equipment, and closes the pool. • Cleans the pool deck, facility, restrooms, and other surrounding pool areas. • Performs related tasks, as necessary.
Minimum Education & Experience High school graduation or GED preferred. One (1) year of work-related experience. Required to demonstrate swimming skills.
Special Certifications & Licenses Valid Texas Driver's License American Red Cross First Aid & Safety Community CPR or CPR for the Professional.
Independence & Judgement Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems. Type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination. May involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.
Initiative & Ingenuity Low chance for error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: not demanded to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.
Supervisory & Responsibility Does not supervise.
Financial Responsibility Does not deal with money.
Level & Frequency of Outside Contact Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.
Physical Demands Light physical effort. Ability to exert up to 35lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment & Property Responsible for use of equipment/property assigned.
Working Conditions Frequent exposure to outdoor elements; job often exposes person to physical danger; serious space problems; frequent situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
