Job Title: Sports Information Specialist

Reports to: Athletic Director

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for managing day-to-day media operations while also processing check requests, requisition and purchase orders. The Sports Information Specialist will also administer and manage the athletic website, social media accounts and online ticketing website for Midway Athletics. Additionally responsible for assisting with the administration of MISD Extracurricular Drug Trusting Program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's/ Associate's degree in communications, journalism, video production, or a related field preferred.

Course work or other formal training in video production and communications.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience with various creative and productivity software platforms and tools

Understanding of web-based audience engagement techniques and analytics

Knowledge of professional photography and videography equipment

Graphic design for social media

Skills necessary to perform webpage maintenance duties on a professional level

Organizational abilities, proofreading skills, photography skills

Must be able to work with multiple projects simultaneously

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Possess creativity and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail

Follow instructions and complete assignments on deadline under own initiative or as a team

Exercise sound judgement in working with District administrators and staff, appraising situations, and making decisions

Have a sense of ownership through attention to detail and commitment to quality

Experience:

1-2 years of social media and/or website experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Publication Services and Information Management

1.Upkeep of rosters, schedules, scores and stats in Max Preps and cumulative scheduling database.

  1. Upkeep of coaches' biographies, records and staff bios.

  2. Archive cumulative stats, records and program histories.

  3. Take photographs for publications, presentations, and displays.

5.Oversee use of athletic pictures and logos to maintain and enforce visual appearance and brand continuity in print and digital environment.

6.Be prepared to make time-sensitive changes to website, ticketing platform, social media and calendar software.

7.Design, prepare, produce and edit online and print graphics, original digital artwork and graphic layouts for athletic initiatives and events.

8.Write and proofread copy for brochures and publications produced for MISD Athletics.

9.Assist with production and distribution of publications and news releases.

Media and Communications

10.Work with Director of Athletics and head coaches to promote athletic teams.

  1. Evaluate means and ways of getting sports information to staff, athletes, media and alumni.

  2. Work closely with the Director of Athletics to effectively produce media guides, brochures, news releases, programs, picture schedules, game day flyers, and other printed material regarding the teams, games and events. Produce quality written materials for release to media outlets and conference office.

  3. Responsible for running and updating social media platforms for MISD Athletics including but not limited to: Facebook, X, Instagram and Parent Square. Maintain archive of all district digital assets.

  4. Maintain and develop the athletic department web page. This may mean adding current scores, providing information about players and games and promotion of upcoming events.

  5. Ensure the information and presentation of web site accurately reflects and communicates the mission and testimony of athletes and Midway Athletics.

  6. Perform daily upkeep of season previews, outlooks, athletically related stories, and home pages.

Other Functions

  1. Provide front-desk coverage when in the Athletics' Office:

a. Answer the Athletics' phone, greet individuals in the athletics' office.

b. Disseminate athletics mail to appropriate individuals and places.

  1. Responsible for Online Ticketing platform:

a. Oversee box office operations and manage ticket sale operations for events.

b. Train staff in the use of required equipment and software.

c. Care for and inventory all ticketing equipment.

  1. MISD Extracurricular Drug Testing - Maintain list of students participating in extracurricular activities and assist in the administration of drug testing.

  2. Support athletic department needs related to scheduling events in School Dude and processing purchase receipts.

  3. Assume job-related duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.
