Exempt employees are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime compensation. They are expected to fulfill the full scope of their job responsibilities regardless of the number of hours worked.

WVU Parkersburg employees in exempt managerial positions are expected to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to fulfill the basic requirements of their role. In practice, the responsibilities and leadership duties associated with these positions typically require more than 37.5 hours per week. Because these positions are exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), work expectations are not defined by a maximum number of hours, but rather by the scope of authority, level of responsibility, and operational needs associated with the position.

Exempt employees are entrusted to exercise professional judgment in managing their time to ensure institutional goals are achieved and leadership expectations are met.

Other Essential Job Requirements

This is an on-site position. Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure performance of the essential function of the job, including scheduled meetings and shifts. May require working alternate hours or alternate locations upon request to support campus mission.

Shift Variable. Standard hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Full time is considered 37.5 hours per week.

Pay Grade 06 ($46,995 - $59,248) Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Function/Summary The Campus Counselor position at WVU Parkersburg oversees and directs the functions of student mental health counseling and assists with disability/accessibility services, at WVU Parkersburg.

Minimum Qualifications Education:

Master's degree in psychology, counseling or other related field or equivalent education and/or

Experience:

Two years of mental health counseling high school students or adults in referral and crisis situations.

Licensure/Certification:

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Social Worker (LCSW) or actively pursuing licensure toward LPC or LCSW. Licensed Psychologist (preferred)

Strong oral and written communication skills. Must have effective interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills for scheduling and record maintenance. Ability to work with an academically and culturally diverse group of students. Possess a strong commitment to equity. Ability to use computer software for communication and organization. Ability to understand and resolve issues that arise with students concerning the areas of academics, their personal and their social lives. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Ability to perform office and administrative procedures and keep accurate and updated records. Ability to administer ADA policies, programs and procedures in accordance with state and federal law. Must have working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the institution. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Must be self-motivated and be able to work and supervise the work of others independently.

Duties/Responsibilities Student Support Services (65%)

Provides counseling support to students experiencing emotional distress, situational challenges, or environmental stressors; assesses needs and determines appropriate courses of action, including referral, in accordance with institutional, state, and federal policies and legal/ethical standards. Provides drop-in and short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services for concerns impacting students' personal, academic, or social functioning. Develops, coordinates, and delivers proactive workshops and outreach programs for general and targeted student populations focused on wellness, coping skills, stress management, healthy relationships, emotional regulation, communication skills, and resilience. Assists students in problem-solving and navigating unique challenges using professional counseling methods and knowledge of campus, community, state, and federal support resources. Guides and supports students in identifying solutions and developing strategies to address educational, personal, and social challenges commonly experienced in the college environment.

Reviews student demographic trends, utilization data, and relevant research to inform the development of proactive, evidence-based programming and outreach initiatives. Collaborates with institutional partners to develop and maintain student-facing informational resources related to access, accommodations, and support services, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with college policies.

Faculty and Staff Support (10%)

Reviews student demographic trends and relevant research to inform the development of proactive seminars, trainings, and outreach initiatives for faculty and staff. Provides consultation, training, and guidance to faculty and administrators regarding student-related ADA considerations, access concerns, and appropriate use of campus support and referral processes. Serves as a consultative member of WVU Parkersburg's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), offering professional input related to student safety, well-being, and referral considerations. Also serves on the Graduation Committee and other committees as assigned - providing consultation, coordination, and support in response to critical incidents affecting the campus community.

Employee Support & Consultation (10%) (Non-clinical; consultation- and referral-based only)

Provides consultation and support to campus employees regarding workplace stressors, critical incidents, and concerns impacting functioning, with emphasis on assessment, referral, and resource navigation rather than ongoing counseling. Assists employees in identifying appropriate internal and external support resources, including facilitation of referrals to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and community providers, in accordance with institutional policies and ethical standards. Supports Human Resources by providing professional consultation related to employee well-being, crisis response, and referral pathways, while maintaining appropriate role boundaries and confidentiality. Promotes awareness of EAP services and supports HR efforts to encourage utilization while preserving employee anonymity and privacy.

Student Disabilities and Accommodation support (5%)

Provides consultation support to the ADA Specialist regarding accessibility services, reasonable accommodations, and ADA-related questions in higher education settings as needed. Assists the ADA Specialist by participating in the interactive process as appropriate, including student meetings and documentation review support when requested. Supports coordination of accommodation implementation by facilitating communication between students, faculty, and staff to ensure approved accommodations are carried out effectively. Assists with operational needs of the testing accommodations environment (e.g., distraction-reduced testing space) under the direction of the ADA Specialist. Provides backup support for continuity of services in the ADA Specialist's absence, ensuring consistent student access to established processes and procedures. Assists with maintaining and updating student-facing accessibility information in collaboration with Marketing and Communications, under the guidance of the ADA Specialist to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Professional Development (5%)

Attends appropriate professional trainings to maintain counseling certifications and certifications for compliance of ADA/Section 504 for Higher Education.

General (5%)
