TITLESchool Bus Safety Assistant Part-Time FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least eighteen 18 years of age. Must have a valid NC Drivers License with a favorable driving record.
REPORTS TO Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL To assist the bus driver with transporting students to and from school in a safe and efficient manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensures safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing the school bus. • Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times. • Assists the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus, monitors, and assists students while the bus is in operation. • Consults with and assists bus drivers in documentation of student information and recordkeeping. • Ensures students are properly secured in seat belts, harnesses, and wheelchairs as required. • Assists parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students. • Coordinates seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines. • Communicates with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems, and behavior as appropriate. • Ensures all incidents are properly reported and documented. • Maintains current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures. • Assists students on and off the bus, ensuring a responsible adult meets students leaving the bus. • Complies with the transportation safety standards set by the State of North Carolina and Cumberland County Schools. • Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties. • Serves as a team player and role model for other employees, demonstrating a commitment to continuous quality improvement, supporting and exhibiting organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer-driven, and valuing fairness. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Maintains regular attendance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able-bodied, free of physical handicaps, in good physical condition, and be able to lift at least twenty 20 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. • Must possess a valid North Carolina Drivers License. • CPR First Aid Certification preferred.
