TITLE Lead Nurse for Health Services

FLSA STATUS Exempt

This position includes an additional $750.00 per month stipend plus an annual 6% supplement based on salary earnings paid at the end of the school year.

QUALIFICATIONS • R.N. certification • Bachelors degree in nursing (preferred) • Minimum of three years of experience in pediatric nursing or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

REPORTS TO Director for Health Services

JOB GOAL Applies Nursing theory and process to health case management and develops certain related services to exceptional children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Reviews Physicians Orders to make recommendations to the Director of Health Services regarding level of nursing support needed for chronically ill special education students in the school setting. • Provides both situational and comprehensive health assessments of students, reporting results to teachers, principals, parents, and/or the Director. • Assists nurses with developing and implementing nursing care plans for individual special and certain regular education students with complex health care and/or maintenance needs. • Assists the Director for Health Services with scheduling nursing coverage for services mandated by the IEP. • Provides guidance to nurses regarding the documentation of services provided to individual students and Medicaid billing. • Acts as consultant for health-related IEP goals and attends IEP meetings as requested. • Assists the Director for Health Services in developing and presenting quality professional development for EC nursing staff and school personnel as it relates to medication, asthma, diabetes, nursing care, and certain emergency medications. • Provides individual self-care instruction to students. • Confers with school personnel to interpret recommendations and data pertaining to student health care needs. • Develops and creates nursing plans of care for EC students who receive nursing services. • Provides nursing services to EC students in the absence of EC Nurse. • Meets with teachers to acquaint them with the health program, health services offered, and classroom emergency procedures for first aid. • Communicates with parents regarding nursing services and coverage of students required health needs. • Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, demonstrating a commitment to continuous quality improvement, supporting, and exhibiting organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer-driven, and valuing fairness. • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading, and prepare and present written and oral reports and statistical data. • Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
