The New Graduate Registered Nurse has the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skill in the practice of nursing under the direct supervision of registered nurse preceptor. The New Graduate Registered Nurse performs direct and indirect patient care functions. These activities prepare the New Graduate Registered Nurse as they transition from student nurse to health care team member.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. The New Graduate Registered Nurse will be automatically enrolled in the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, and participation in and successful completion of the program is required. This one-year program facilitates the nurses transition to independent practice and provides additional support through monthly seminars and formalized mentorship.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • License/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required upon hire or transfer. AHA ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Experience:
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members.
  • Ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems, and use proper judgment in difficult situations.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately, and skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Potential for exposure to the hazard and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
  • Reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching approximately 25% of a workday.
  • Visual and physical ability required to work at a computer terminal.
  • Standing and walking approximately 50% of a workday.
  • Lifting approximately 50 -- 100 pounds frequently with assistance, occasionally.
  • Physical abilities required to push, pull, or transport equipment and patients.
  • Essential functions of this position are listed on the department specific Assessment and Evaluation tool.
