Luther Burbank School District is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Physical Education Teacher to provide comprehensive standards-based physical education instruction for students in Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 8. The successful candidate will create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, health education, and lifelong wellness habits. The Physical Education Teacher will design and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with California Physical Education Standards, assess student progress, and foster a safe and supportive environment where all students can participate and succeed. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong classroom management, effective communication skills, and a commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students while contributing to a positive school culture. This position is part of an eligibility pool for potential full-time (1.0 FTE) vacancies during the 2026-27 school year. Assignments will be based on district needs.

Teacher Job Description I. PRIMARY FUNCTION The primary function of the classroom teacher assigned to the elementary school is to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge through an educational program for pupils in grades K- 8. II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Student: 1. Assess pupil needs and prescribe appropriate learning activities . 2. Evaluate attitudes and academic progress in relation to established bjectives, 3. Identify special problems and refer children to appropriate programs, following-up when advisable. 4. Provide classroom instruction to meet differing learning styles and levels of student performance. 5. Maintain a classroom that encourages development of positive self-image, and interaction in the learning process. 6. Develop and maintain, cooperatively with students, classroom behavior standards and work habits that facilitate learning. 7. Supervise students on yard and field trip activities. B. Parents: 1. Provide opportunity for at least two conferences a year and others as needed. 2. Provide opportunities for parent information and observation. 3. Cooperatively plan with parents for students needing special assistance (health, emotiona1 and instructional). C. Staff: 1. Cooperate in a professional manner with other staff members by participating in: ? Faculty meetings ? School service ? Special committees ? Parent-teacher organizations ? Grade level, or team planning D. School/District: 1. Participate in district in service 2. Participate in district Curriculum Committees. III. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned by the building Superintendent-Principal or Designee, delegated by faculty committees, or requested by the district office. IV. SUPERVISOR A. Building Superintendent-Principal or Designee V. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. Credential 1. Appropriate California Teaching Credential B. Education: 1. Bachelor''s Degree 2. Completion of courses specified by California State Credential Requirements C. Experience: 1. Previous teaching experience or successful student teaching D. Personal Qualities: 1. Ability to organize time and resources 2. Ability to relate effectively to children, other faculty member s, parents and community members 3. Ability to participate in group decision-making and accept and abide by group decision.

Required Application Materials Letter of Interest Current Resume Three (3) current Letters of Recommendation dated within the last 24 months Valid California Single Subject Physical Education Credential; OR For Pre-Intern Candidates: Unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended Letter verifying current enrollment in a Commission-approved credential program English Learner (EL) Authorization (proof required if not embedded in the California credential) Credential copies must clearly display the subject authorization, expiration date, and English Learner authorization. Letters of Recommendation should be from a current or former Principal, Assistant Principal, Department Chair, Athletic Director, or Program Director. Candidates who are new to the profession or have not yet taught in California may substitute letters from a university supervisor, master teacher, cooperating teacher, or practicum supervisor. Incomplete applications or applications missing required documents may not be considered for employment.
