ROLE AND PURPOSE

The Path College & Career Teacher under the supervision of the Principal shall provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. They enable students to develop competencies and skills to excel in the academic subject area and to function successfully in society. Help ensure that ACHS students acquire the essential skills and meet all requirements necessary for success in high school and college.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Certification
  • Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned (8-12 ELA preferred)
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching advanced courses preferred
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned: General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of integration of technology: Prior experience teaching high school preferred
  • Prior experience teaching high school English courses preferred
  • AVID training preferred
  • Pre-AP and/or AP Institute training preferred
  • Evidence of effective skills in the area of collaboration and communication: General knowledge of what is necessary for students to successfully transition into an Institution of Higher Education

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Implement the AISD curriculum guidelines for high school level courses
  • Prepare lessons that reflect differentiated instruction and implement a variety of techniques for student success
  • Work with students to ensure success on TSIA, ACT, and OCE
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching-learning process

SCHOOL ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook of both AISD and the TCC SE campus
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, department coordinators, content specialists, and other staff as needed to meet curriculum objectives
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits

SCHOOL ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff and district committees as required

STUDENT MANAGEMENT

  • Establish and consistently enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, the ACHS discipline plan, and the ACHS student handbook
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
  • Be a positive role model for students while supporting the missions of the Arlington Independent School District and Tarrant County College

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Establish and maintain open and productive communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators, teachers, and Tarrant County College staff
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Actively engage in life-long learning
  • Actively collaborate with TCC staff and AISD staff to align rigor and content
  • Acquire training specific to Early College High Schools
  • Participate in staff development activities related to AISD and TCC in order to improve job-related skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively promote and serve as a sponsor for one or more ACHS student clubs or organizations
  • Supervise assigned teacher aides

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing
  • Environment Factors: Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment

NOTE
