Parent Educator (Part-Time)
Purpose Statement
The job of Parent Educator is done for the purpose/s of empowering families with the knowledge and skills necessary to support the development of their children during the crucial early years by providing support for caregivers prenatal to kindergarten entry; promoting their involvement and providing information and/or direction; partnering with families in goal setting and resource connections.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: infant and preschool development stages; parenting methods; and community resources; age appropriate activities/behaviors; assessment instruments and techniques.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent laws, rules and regulations; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: working extended hours; being attentive to detail; accessing to a reliable source of transportation on a regular basis; communicating with individuals from varied cultural and educational backgrounds; establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, 10% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: Bachelor's degree in job related area.
