Certified Educational Interpreter-Sign Language Location: Echo Mountain Primary School Duration: 9 months, 6.5 hours/day Grade: 23, $20.60/hour Non-Interim Position Dates: 08/03/2026 - 05/27/2027 Purpose Statement: The job of Certified Educational Interpreter-Sign Language is done for the purposes of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility of exact interpretations working with special need students one-on-one or in small groups following educational and specific behavioral plans and reporting students daily activities. This job reports to Teacher and Site Administrator. Essential Functions: • Provides simultaneous sign language interpretations during the educational day in small group or individual setting. • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. • Provides under the supervision of assigned teacher instruction to the student, e.g. math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, job skills, etc. for the purpose of implementing IEP goals, assisting in adapting to mainstream classrooms and/or work places, and ensuring student success. • Communicates with teachers and a variety of other professionals, e.g. Speech Therapist, PTs, OTs, etc. for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. • Documents students daily activities, e.g. behavior, completed assignments, on/off task times, etc. for the purpose of completing daily logs and students hourly activities. • Evaluates situations involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc. for the purpose of taking action and/or providing referral for resolution. • Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior issues or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. • Maintains manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing written reference and/or meeting mandated requirements. • Models conversation manners, clean up activities, listening, job skills, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner. • Remains with student at all times for the purpose of providing for the safety of student, removing student when necessary, and de-escalating situations outside the classroom. • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Other Functions: • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities • SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: + Operating standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications + Preparing and maintaining accurate records • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including algebra and/or geometry, Read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others and understand complex multi-step written and oral instructions. • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: + Age-appropriate activities when working with high-risk youth + Concepts of grammar and punctuation + Methods of instruction and training • ABILITY is required to interpret at a normal conversational rate in American Sign Language and Straight-English signing. • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups, work with data of varied types and/or purposes, and utilize job-related equipment. • Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. • Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: + Working with detailed information + Adjusting to different levels of language usage + Communicating with diverse groups + Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with others + Meeting deadlines and schedules + Maintaining confidentiality + Prioritizing Responsibility Responsibilities include working under direct supervision, using standardized practices and/or methods, leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others, utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. Experience Job-related experience within a specialized field is required. Education Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
